I am often asked how energy healing works and the answer usually creates more questions than it does answers, which I love because energy healing is a journey – it is as simple as it is complex. So let me start with the basics!! :)

Just as you have a physical body, you have an energetic body too. This is often referred to as an Aura or the subtle body. It has a physical layer; an exact duplicate of your physical form, an emotional layer, a mental layer and a spiritual layer. All that you experience in your physical body and physical reality is apparent in your energetic body first. An energy healer, or an Intuitive, can perceive the story your aura has to tell and facilitate healing that influences a shift on all 4 levels.

There are 12 main chakras, or energy centres, that vibrate in alignment with the spine. Of these 12 chakras, 7 are associated with the physical body and correlate directly to a main organ and gland. They also relate to a layer within your aura. For example, The Solar Plexus chakra is the 3rd energy centre and is located at the stomach. As its location suggests, it relates to the stomach and pancreas at a physical level and at an energetic level it represents the mental body; hence the saying "the stomach is the bodies second brain." We carry our belief systems here too; not to be confused for religious views, but rather the views and values we've accepted about ourselves to be true. The Solar Plexus is the home of self-belief, self-worth and personal power. In contrast, the Third Eye chakra is the 6th energy centre and is located at the middle of your forehead. It governs the brain and the pituitary gland (as well as the eyes and ears) and relates to the higher emotional body. The Third Eye provides us with the opportunity to see all things clearly and with clarity; not just with clairvoyance but with the wisdom to see things as they are, not how we think things should or should not be.

When it comes to energy healing, there are many different modalities. Contrary to popular belief, not all energy healers are Reiki practitioners. And, no two practitioners trained in the same modality with provide you with the same experience. This is because each and every healer is unique and works with energy in their own unique way. There are those who are skilled at healing the emotional body, some who focus on clearing the mental layer, healers who initiate change in the physical paradigm, some who shift energy with your ancestral lines and past lives, those who activate your soul's divine blueprint and there are some who provide multidimensional healing and alignment.

“All healing is the so-called healer giving off a frequency in their energy field that represents the healed state. The person coming to them must choose [consciously or subconsciously] to match that frequency in order to heal themselves. No healer ever directly heals anybody, as a healer you give them the option and the opportunity to match a frequency that will allow them to bring themselves into a healed state, should they choose.” - Bashar (channelled by Daryl Anka).

Energy healing is not massage therapy. Unless the practitioner has stipulated that your session involves massage, the session should be conducted with your clothes on. A healer may use tools such as crystals, colour, sound, essential oils and flower essences during your session. Some practitioners will use the 'hands on' method, whilst others will refrain from making contact with your physical body. It is important to understand that an energy healer is the conduit for healing energy and is responsible for holding the space in accordance with what your higher-self most needs. In other words, the practitioner directs energy so that you may release and receive in whatever way that is best for you.

Energy healing is non-denominational. It is an opportunity to return to wholeness, to find the point of neutrality within. If you have not experienced energy healing, I encourage you to explore the many benefits it has to offer your body, heart, mind and soul.

Earth is a wonderful, beautiful, enchanting planet of duality and it is governed by the law of action. It is here that Newton's third law comes into play; for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Energy can never disappear, it can only be shifted, transferred and transmuted. All things you wish to manifest in your physical reality require action. As you allow yourself to release, so too will you receive and what you send out will be returned. It is universal law.

To understand duality is to acknowledge and embrace the sacred dance of your shadow within the light.

There cannot be light without dark and there is neither good nor bad; there's just energy and intention. We need both positive and negative energies to create movement, again not good or bad but opposites - like a magnet. We have been taught to fear the darkness but one must never fear the shadow. There are those who are of the opinion that as we step into light there cannot be dark but this is not so. The closer to the light we get, the larger and more defined our shadow becomes.

The moon, in all her glory, represents the shadow. Her energy is cool and silvery white. She is creation and fluidity, magic and mystery. There is only one night in every lunar cycle where her light shines unobstructed and she can truly be full. All other nights of the year her luminescence is hidden. She takes us on a journey within so that the Sun may expand our energy throughout. His golden warmth brings joy and courage, balancing the receiving energy of the Moon with a call to action. He is the co-creator; both are two halves of the same whole.

Even on the planet now there are those who wish to "eliminate all dark forces" but this is not how we heal the world. We must find the point of neutrality; the point of balance between light and dark and that can only be found within. The more light that is anchored here, the bigger the shadow becomes. Those who wish to do all this 'eliminating' are working from a place of fear which only exacerbates the problem.

True neutrality is found when we expand our awareness beyond our current idea of what the divine feminine and sacred masculine truly represent; both within and beyond us.

Feminine does not mean 'girly' or soft. It is a polarity that redefines strength through flow, fluidity and shadow work. As mentioned above, it is represented by the moon, or Lady Luna if you so wish to call her, and it is aligned with the aspect of receiving. To be masculine does not mean to be 'macho' or stoic. It is the polarity that relates to putting things into motion, it is the 'doing' energy, it is movement through action. The sun, or Sir Helios if you'd like to call upon him by name, is the overseer of the sacred masculine and he represents the light.

Too much time in the masculine can result in the overriding of your creative, intuitive flow. Excessive time in the feminine is fun but nothing ever really gets done.

The point of neutrality is found within the heart. It is the place where releasing and receiving meet. This is where masculine and feminine energies are brought into perfect harmony, the place where your light dances within the dark.

Duality allows us to experience all aspects of the sacred soul. We cannot find our shadow in the dark, only in the light can we see that our experience in the darkness has contributed to the beauty of who we've become.

Have you heard of the beautiful Hawaiian prayer HO'OPONOPONO? It is a practice of reconciliation and forgiveness and means "I forgive you. I'm sorry. Thank you. I love you." It has taught me to pause, turn inward and give myself permission to heal. Using this prayer, I have also come to understand that progress is personal, there are no mistakes; just lessons, and that endings are always followed by new beginnings.

With this in mind, I want to share a little message of love from my guides to you. "Although your journey is your own, you are never ever alone." To help deepen your understanding of this, I'd like to gift some pieces of me to you, too.

Perhaps there's a little piece of me that is similar to a little piece of you.

“I just want to be a fairy and sometimes I pretend that my cat Walter is a dragon" - me (at age 33).

My full name is Emma Michelle Lovett, my parents named me after two songs: can you guess which ones? I am BIG sister to Sarah, Rachel and John. Rachie is a high school teacher and she is beautiful beyond measure. We are very different, her and I, when she walks into a room she commands attention. She is vibrant, bold and brave; I admire her in every way. Although 8 years younger than me, she's the boss babe with the "big sister" vibe. Our little brother Johnnie isn't actually so little. I'm 5"10 and I fit under his armpit. He's a "Trooper" in the army; hilariously funny, generous and deeply kind. We aren't really together all that often but when we are it's bacon and egg brekkies, Harry Potter marathons and us prancing around the lounge room listening to the same song on repeat.

When I was 6 our sister Sarah died. She had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and although her heart had not physically developed in her little body, it will forever be intertwined with mine. She has helped me understand that in spirit we are never separate from the ones we love. For those of you who have loved and lost, I hope you find comfort in knowing that separation is a state of mind; what the heart experiences is what truly exists. Every time you think of your loved one they are with you, each memory carried within your heart is an experience they connect to too.

I've always had an affinity with the fairy realm. So much so, that when I was younger I was convinced I was a fairy and that my shoulder blades were my wings; all folded up so that no-one else could see. To be honest, nothing much has changed and I still work closely with the fairy realm in my practice today.

I am from a small town in Australia called Coffs Harbour. Yep, it's the place with a giant banana on the side of the high way. I left Australia when I was 20 and have lived in Edinburgh, Turkey and London. I travelled with my friend Lauren, we had some wild adventures but at 22 I followed my heart to Cape Town, South Africa and found home in the heart of the "Mother City".

When I was 29 I had cervical cancer (holy shitballs, I know). It was really scary. I always thought I'd be a mother and there I was, not even 30, face to face with the reality of that being taken away. I know pap-smear talk is not a vibe but it literally saved my life. If you are afraid to have your check up, I know how you feel! But please find your courage and get tested anyway.

I have also had a miscarriage. It broke my heart. And, sigh, gave me a lifetime membership to a club I never wanted to belong to. Even worse, it's a club that no one speaks about so you've got no darn idea who's in the club with you. My heart needed healing and that's when spirit guided me to a little, fat, Persian cat. I don't even like cats, but I liked him! His name is Walter. It is often in the quiet moments of heartbreak that our prayers are heard the loudest; our spirit guides, fairies and angels step in and send help in the most unexpected and magical ways.

Oh yeah, I am divorced too. Most people assume I was married for 5 minutes but my ex-husband and I were together for almost 11 years. I liken divorce to that of walking through fire; stripped bare by the experience, I thought there'd be nothing left of me but ash. Instead, all that no longer served me was burnt away and somewhere in all that chaos I stepped back into my power with the courage to begin again. If you have experienced or are currently experiencing separation, it is not easy but I promise there is strength within you and if I can get through it, I believe you can too.

On a lighter note, I am fascinated by left handed people. It's weird, I know. But it's one of the first things I'll notice about you. I am terribly afraid of open water waves. Not open water, just the ocean waves. I'm pretty scared of baboons too. I am unashamed to say I don't know how to drive a manual car, reverse parallel parking gives me hives and my sister says I "drive like we've got extra lives". I don't have a mathematical cell in my brain and my depth perception is out the window, as in it doesn't exist. There could be a hundred or a thousand people in a room and I couldn't tell you the difference. I talk to myself ALL the time and my favourite flower is a Frangipani. Whenever I am back at home, I pick a flower and put it in my hair every day. On the days when my dad is in the garden before I am, he picks a Frangipani and leaves it on the kitchen bench for me. I guess it's become a bit of a tradition.

Just as I have known the light, I have experienced the shadow too. I hope all these little pieces of me shine love to all the little pieces within you.
